After information sessions and multi-page applications and interviews, after evening meetings and a mid-quarter weekend retreat at North Cascades Institute, and after a week of long days on Western’s campus, we are finishing up preparations for our Study Abroad trip to Rwanda. And now we wait.
Our students have worked hard to prepare for this journey. They’ve worked longer hours at their jobs, taken out loans, held fundraisers, asked friends and family for help. They’ve also prepared academically, completing readings and discussions and activities, and finished Week 1 of our class with Global Media Research Projects. They’ve created Google docs for items to share: Q-Tips, Advil, band-aids, books.
We meet tomorrow at Sea-Tac and will fly to Chicago, Doha, Entebbe, and finally Kigali, where Tim will meet us. The next post will be from Rwanda.
Tugende! (Let’s go!)
